Pro Organizer vs Cookie Cutter Tidying

Just finished a presentation at my local BNI chapter, BARRETT BUSINESS BUILDERS, and thought this would be perfect to share on my blog. Its so good and juicy because it boils down the topic of why a Pro Organizer is worth hiring vs the cookie cutter organizing we have around us.

Universal Organizing Example

We go to Target because we need to purchase toothpaste. When we enter the store we see featured displays and we see aisles.

Target and other superstores, gas stations, and even the airport design their layout and aisles to make it easier for customers to find what they are looking for.

Image showing different aisles in a store. Each aisle has a different category of items. At each aisle, the products display sub-categories of the main category.

Every aisle has its own category of products in the store.

As we pass by each aisle, we see that they each have their own theme or set of categories. We know the toothpaste will not be found in the automotive area or the clothing aisle. We enter the home goods area where there are pillows, kitchen gear and bathroom accessories. No not there either. What about Personal Use items? Yes we are getting warmer. We pass the aisle with the shampoos, then we see the aisle with the mouthwash and floss, BINGO! There it is: the toothpaste!

Stores across the world are designed so that we, the customer, can find what we are looking for even if we have never stepped foot into that store. They categorize and merchandise their items so to increase our emotional and spontaneous buy-in. They remove obstacles from making it harder find and buy items, increasing the store effectiveness. Those are the universal principles of organization.

What isn’t organization?

So what isn't organization? Kids can quickly stuff all their clutter into drawers, the closet, and under the bed. Raise your hand if you were that kid!!! ME too! This room looks "neat and tidy", but is it?

Well lets open one of the drawers...

Tidy looking kid's bedroom.

Everything looks “neat and clean” doesn’t it?

Image of a disarray of small toys and random small items. This is used as an example of a hidden mess in an otherwise neat and tidy room.

What’s hiding in the drawers? LOL, and we wonder why we couldn’t find things!

…and we wonder why we couldn’t find out clear green ruler.

Phrases like "neat and tidy", "minimalistic" are used a lot to describe the way a space LOOKS. But if we cant find what we need, than our space is not very functional, its just pretty!

My definition: "Organizing is a process that creates a functional environment for YOU and reflects your priorities."

Benefits: *

1. Efficiency- Easier access to items and improved workflow.*

2. Decreased Stress- Less time spent searching for things, leading to a calmer environment.*

3. Increased Space- Maximizes usable space and improves storage.*

4. Aesthetic Appeal-Creates a visually pleasing and harmonious home environment.*

*Everyone prioritizes these differently; “It depends…”

Anything can be organized including digital files, garage, car, bags, purses and office. We can organize the house by rooms or by categories of things (my favorite way!).

Let's take a moment to consider the people in our lives.

Who do you know that might be facing a challenge right now?

Perhaps you know a recent widow sorting through her late husband's belongings, feeling the weight of memories and decisions.

Or maybe there's a fast-paced individual needing to merge two households into one, striving for harmony amidst the chaos.

And what about the overwhelmed parent, yearning to reclaim a tidy home for their family?

These situations can feel daunting, but they are also opportunities.

As we move forward, think about how Naomi Organizing can step in to provide the support needed.

Together, I can help ease these challenges, allowing my clients to focus on what truly matters in their lives.

Naomi Calderon

For many years I had struggled leaving the house early because everything from coordinating my outfit to finding my keys was in a scattered chaos. When I learned about how to organize my life by creating functional systems, I found a profound change in my life for the better. I immediately felt relief and joy in way no words can express. If you have ever felt that way, you don’t have to struggle alone. I want you to also experience the gift that you reward yourself of organization. Let’s take that journey one project at a time!
